Coaching enables an individual to identify:
- existing skills, resources and experiences/ areas of strength
- personal and professional/ career development needs/ areas
for development/ current and future challenges
- learning style
- learning agenda
- learning goals/ objectives and strategies to work towards them
- creative solutions and appropriate responses/choices
A coach facilitates the individual’s
learning by:
- Building a collaborative working alliance with a clear contract
which includes being explicit about the boundaries of confidentiality
- Being empathic, non-judgemental and honest
- Respecting and working with diversity
- Employing dialogue and discussion
- Clarifying goals and strategies
- Listening and making both supportive and challenging interventions
- Modelling effective communication skills
- Encouraging the giving and receiving of feedback
- Raising self-awareness and insight
- Enhancing emotional literacy/intelligence.
- Encouraging self- monitoring and evaluating of learning and
progress which leads to identifying new goals and strategies.
- Enabling the individual to take responsibility for their own
learning/ development
- Encouraging critical reflection
The process of coaching enables the individual
